Knowing whether or not the affiliate program you are wanting to promote is legitimate or not is always something you need to be able to recognize without getting to deeply involved with the company itself.

You risk your business reputation in bad companies if you don’t watch the companies that you promote as an affiliate marketer.

So I always do several things before I decide to promote a business or program online. Here are the steps I take before making any final decisions.

  1. I “Google” the company. I check to make sure that company doesn’t have any “scam reports” written on them. But, you have to beware those that are using “SUCH AND SUCH SCAM” as a way to draw you into their affiliate sales pages. I absolutely think this is a travesty on the affiliate market. I think it’s wrong to pull someone into your affiliate squeeze page under false pretenses! It also gives the actual business owner a bad name. When you “Google” the company and find all these FAKE “scam” reports.
  2. I always check their page rank and traffic reports in Alexa. If they are not getting good traffic already themselves what is wrong with their own marketing campaigns? If they are offering me free banners/ads/etc to promote their products and they’re not pulling good traffic in themselves then these marketing forms are not producing the results I’ll want to have as the affiliate.
  3. I check and see if the actual business owner has a good/bad reputation. (Ex. I’ll look up people like Frank Kern and John Reese and Joe Vitale….. not just their company names.)
  4. When I’m working with companies like PepperJam Network, The Biz Opp Network, Commission Junction or any of the “multi” Affiliate Networks, I always check out the individual company that I’m promoting.. It’s like a “background check” on the companies and/or product owners.
  5. I check to see if they give me some good tools to use in promoting their program. One of the things I absolutely hate is when I am becoming an affiliate for someone and they don’t have any banners, ads or articles about their product…. to help me in my creative writing processes and banner advertising.
  6. I also become a CUSTOMER, and buy the product or service I am marketing “for the most part” there are some marketers online that I’ve known for years that their products are worth me promoting so I’ll go ahead and promote them even if I don’t personally buy the product. I know their reputation is worth staking my reputation on!

My last suggestion is to always be care and do your homework. Make sure your reputation won’t get tarnished by the products you promote and also make sure the product/service fits into your message you want to get out to your customers.

This message has NOTHING to do with marketing. It’s a topic that I’m deeply interested in and the outcome will have a HUGE IMPACT on the lives of thousands of kids, so I just had to post it here and share the message with you.

Ken McArthur and his IMPACT ACTION TEAM…  are going to California this weekend and they need your help! They are spreading the word about SPEAK UP - SAVE LIVES and I want you as my readers to get involved with this program…

You can help make a difference in thousands of teenager’s lives!

Here are a few facts you might not realize.

  • The third leading cause of death for 15-to-24-year-olds is suicide.
  • Every day, more than 80 Americans commit suicide- and 1500 more attempt it.
  • America lost more teens to suicide last year than the total number of soldiers lost in the Iraq war

What people don’t realize is that many teens hide their pain very well. It’s something that I personally dealt with and haven’t ever spoken “publicly” about before now… so I hope you take what I’m about to tell you seriously and really listen to the message that I’m going to desperately try to get across to you. It will enable you to assist in helping save so many lives that wouldn’t be saved without your help.

The signs are all around you… if you will just start looking.

Here’s how I hid my own pain…

I tried to excel in school. I was always the “teacher’s pet” and always tried for the best grades. I was quiet and reserved, yet ached for positive attention. I didn’t eat much, didn’t try to fit in, I actually tried to stay hidden… always behind a book.

You may not know it but the teen/tween you are sitting beside on a bus, in a pew, or in the library may be a teen/tween that is literally dying inside from anger, pain, frustration, and CONFUSION…they hide it in so many ways… that it’s really hard to know exactly which ones are hurting… I’ve worked with kids who acted out their pain, I’ve seen kids hurt themselves because of their pain, then I’ve seen kids that were straight A students that were using that form of attention to hide their pain from the world.

Make a difference today by clicking here!! FILL OUT THE FORM and give in whatever way you can. Whether you give money or just help spread the word… know without a doubt that you’ve helped save lives!

This is definitely something that I’m going to be watching closely as I am deeply impacted by what is forming here! It’s something that I definitely want to see succeed in a LARGE way!!

“While static URLs might have a slight advantage in terms of click through rates because users can easily read the URLs, the decision to use database-driven websites does not imply a significant disadvantage in terms of indexing and ranking.”

“For those using WordPress permalinks, if you can be certain that they do not introduce any irrelevant elements into the URL (which WordPress is actually very good at producing) then there should not be any problems. For those using SEO modules that rewrite URLs (like the ones we featured last week), know in no uncertain terms that Google prefers the dynamic URLs as these solutions make understanding a website easier - for Google.”

What a way to throw a stick in the wheels of blog writers all over the net! I’m technically a geek when it comes to creating WP blogs.. but this is the part I really don’t understand… so what is this going to do for my blog? Is this going to create havoc cause I don’t need anymore… ROFL.

To read the full article that I was just reading at Website Magazine click here.

The permalink that I have chosen is one that was set up as a default of sorts within WP. It looks like this in its raw format:

http://www.DOMAIN.com/year/month/title without (minimal words)

Example: this post now looks like this http://www.affiliatehomebasedbusiness.com/2008/09/google/

The plugins that I am using take out all the little words like: (of, but, to, the, it).

It leaves the “base” of the title in the keyword phrased link. Leaving me a keyword loaded link if I title the article properly. I feel that is the key in using permalinks…

I’m going to go into Google and look at my stats and see if I have pages that aren’t showing up and such.. I may have to go back to the absolute default way of creating blog links.

http://www.domain.com/(number of post) I absolutely hate the look of this one!!

One of the things I still fail to do more often than not is PLAN my business strategies. It’s something I just haven’t been taking the time to do until the past couple of weeks.

What I’ve noticed over the past few weeks though is that I’ve started accomplishing more in my time than I was before! I want to share with you why I’m becoming more and more focused on my work.

If you haven’t ever heard of Mark Joyner you’re either a complete Newbie and just got on the net yesterday or you’ve been living in a bubble.

Anyway.. I’ve been a student and customer of his for years.. and I’ve actually been a member of his site Simple-ology since it’s birth…
